And thus ended the first week of the reign of Elder Coxson. That's right, it's been a full week since the last Monday. We had transfers on Friday; I'm still in ASL with a missionary who is now learning ASL and we are the SMSLs for the mission now (social media specialist leader). And let me tell you, it's been a busy week. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself staying up till 10:15 working on spreadsheets and pestering missionaries for their accountability report.
In other news, we've had a lot of fun learning the language together. Elder B knew a little coming into the area, so I've been teaching him ASL. Gift of tongues go brrrr, his comprehension is getting better really fast. It'll be a fun seven weeks together!
One interesting thing that I did this week was go down to Chula Vista to investigate some deaf doorbells. One of the Sisters told us there was a complex with a few doorbells that said they were for hard-of-hearing people so we took the hour drive down. There were indeed four doorbells, and the sign under each of them said to press and hold for five seconds. I push the button, and suddenly the fire alarm inside goes off. I guess the people who made the deaf doorbells for that complex were lazy and just hooked up the fire alarm for the flashy lights, so we hold it down for five seconds. Suddenly a lady opens the door and asks us why we held it for so long, covering her ears. Turns out that there were only hearing people in those apartments, and we scared the bajeebers out of them. No deaf people.
Elder B and I taught Sunday School in church yesterday. We taught about serving others and how Jesus did the same during his ministry. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot more nerve-wracking than just teaching a normal lesson to somebody. Don't ask me why or how, but all 20 people in the deaf branch staring you down is a tad bit scary.
That's all the exciting things that happened today, have a great week! Lots to do before this next busy week starts.
