Hello everyone, it is once again Tuesday, the best day of the week. To be honest, I coulda swore yesterday was Tuesday, yet here we are again. Time to remember what in the world happened in between today and last Tuesday...
Wednesday night a ward member gave us money to go out to eat, so we looked at all the different local burger places here in PB/La Jolla. We settled on a place called the Burger Lounge up in La Jolla. Nothing to cool about this experience, I just enjoyed eating a burger, sitting up at the countertop looking out at the street of La Jolla as it was being dumped on with rain.
Fun fact, San Diego has gotten more rain than Seattle this year, according to some ward member that I was talking to. Very reliable, but if it is true that's pretty crazy.
We had Zone Conference this week, and I was just sitting listening to somebody yack about who knows what. But the cool thing about the spirit is that it rarely teaches what is being taught. But basically my thought train went as follows: I'm from Utah -> I'm not from San Diego -> I will never see these people around me ever again -> why am I afraid to run to people and tell them about Jesus?
Maybe I should have figured this out before the mission, but that was my aha moment of the week. I've been much more outgoing this week than last, and my companion looks at me weird now when I actually do my job.
One cool application of this story comes from a miracle. We were on our way to Kate Sessions park for a little study, but my comp forgot the turn. No problem, I say. I pull out my phone and find which turn will get us back on track. I say oh it's just Solidad Road and then it'll be on our left. But for some reason, both of us just blanked out on turning and we ended up near Mount Solidad.
Ah darn, this is not were we meant to go. But since we were already there, we decided to just walk around since we spent the miles driving all the way up there. We talk to people enjoying the view and the cross, and we start talking to this young couple about this big white castle building (spoiler: it's the temple). We explain how it's where families get sealed for all eternity, even after we die. They grabbed onto that truth and asked how they can get inside.
We taught them the entire first missionary discussion, grab their phone number and parted way. Probably the thing that stuck out to me the most about that interaction is that God knows his sheep. He knows where to find the people that are seeking that eternal truth, and it was no coincidence that we both blanked on driving directions and ended up on the other side of PB.
Side note, the whole mission is going through a grieving phase as the San Diego temple is being closed for renovations. No news on when it'll be open again, but it will have to be rededicated so it'll be a hot second. Good bye temple for like a year and a half...
On Saturday we got to help a new member move in. They're from Mapleton, Utah which was pretty neat to talk to somebody so close to home. One of the brothers who helped us move her in served a mission in Singapore, so crazy coincidences there.
Bishop invited us over to make pizzas in his pizza oven, and that was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, my proselyting clothes smelled like smoke so I am once again grateful for machine washable church clothes.
Well that's all for now folks. Not too crazy this week, just doing my job. Don't forget God loves you. If you feel like the devil is hitting you extra hard, it's just because he knows how strong you are. See ya next Tuesday!!
