Hello fellow children of God, welcome back to another Tuesday. I have a few things that I wanted to share today, so let's hit it.
First off, I am now serving in Pacific Beach, which also includes La Jolla. I want all y'all to pull out your Google Street view and drop it in the middle of La Jolla and have you minds blown. There are literal castles overlooking the ocean here, and the members invite us over to their mansion.
On the other half of our area, there's a whole bunch of college kids. They're all going to UCSD, so it's weird seeing so many people around my age just doing life things. So if I'm gonna serve anyone here, I had to adjust my vocabulary. It's a process, but I'm slowly getting enough rizz to vibe with the homes. Thankfully my companion is pretty young and in with the kids, so I'm learning from him.
Last Wednesday I got to go to a member's home to eat dinner, and they are from Iran. So now I can say that I've eaten weird food on my mission, because it was pretty weird. I don't know how to describe it because she wouldn't tell us what was in it, but we definitely didn't ask for seconds.
We got a call from this guy named Nick one day telling us that he wanted to meet with us. A little back story on him, he apparently went to the MoBat and got the missionaries there to send us his number, but it was the wrong number. So for months he's been waiting for us to call him, but we never did.
Anyways, we set up an appointment to meet up and he was telling us about his job and the kind of things he likes to do and he's really cool. I'd say he's in his 40's or 50's, and was very interested in our message. We teach the full rest orating lesson and tell him that he can find answers of our message in the Book of Mormon. I pull a copy out of my bag and hand it to him. We asked him to read 3 Nephi 11 before we meet on Saturday, and he accepted.
We leave that lesson and come back on Saturday and ask him if he was able to read the chapter and he said, "Yeah, I finished the book." He pulls out his book and there are pages folded down and pencil markings all over. My man literally read cover to cover, (except he only read the chapter headings on some of them) and learned basically all of lesson 3 from his studies.
It's amazing to see people discover the truth that is held in the pages of a book. It brings them the spirit that people have been thirsting for their entire life. We asked him to pray about being baptized, and we're waiting to hear from him. What an amazing guy.
Conference was good, Nick absolutely loved hearing from the living prophet and was extatic about the message he left about contention. The messages that were shared can change the world, the only thing in the way is people's beliefs. Missionary work go brrrrrr.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to do an exchange with Elder R. He's serving in SD1, which is the heart of downtown. Boy what a crazy area, you walk by tons of people and really stick out with bright white shirts and Book of Mormons in hand.
While walking down the streets, we met this homeless man named Jacob. We saw him sitting on a staircase and felt prompted to go talk to him. He's a young guy who just moved from Oregon, and we shared a scripture from the Bible. He liked the spirit that we brought, and wanted to come with us. Just like that, we became a trio as we walked from member home to member home, up and down skyscrapers.
We walked by a lady who had these really tiny dogs. We ask her what kind of dogs they were and start to have a good conversation. As we are talking, this man walks up behind us and tells us in broken English to watch out for the pythons. Not the programming language, the harmless kind that slithers on the ground. He told us that the pythons were coming to eat those two dogs and we better run. The lady was a bit freaked out and walked away... Ah well.
After we got some good work done, we walked back to our car against the thousands of people walking up to the Padres stadium to see the game. We were walking through the parking lot and saw a Utah license plate. We met a Utah family, which was kinda funny to see. After walking downtown all day (shout out to Sister Burns who literally does that every day), it was amazing to see such a bright beacon of love that families give. They truly are ordained of God.
This morning I got to wake up early (on a p-day of all days) to go film a music video. My companion, Elder A, plays the cello and was in it so I got to hang out with a bunch of 18-21 y/o hooligans who love God. They sound great and the video is gonna be straight fire (although I don't make an appearance).
Now that my brain has thrown all my thoughts down on the page, I think that's it. Another week down, 4 billion to go. I'll see y'all next week. Crush those water bottles, follow the prophet and keep your head up. It's gonna be a great week
