Oh look, it's Monday! (just kidding, I'm writing this Sunday night in my PJs while my comp makes dinner)
This week has been another seven days, just to mix things up. People are finally going back to school, they're getting home from vacation and they're finally not busy. This makes our job easier, since we're not fighting for space on their calendar. How convenient. It's also the week before next week, which will be a pretty hectic week. Lots of preparing this week.
As far as interesting things that happened this week, we went to advertise our ASL class in Balboa park. We typically will stand there for about an hour or two every once in a while, teaching quick, one minute classes and then handing out a flier for our weekly class. We had a few people come by and tell us that they've actually been needing a class like that, so we give them a flier and cross our fingers they will actually show up. Well, for the past 9 weeks of doing this, not a single person has come to the class. Well, today in class we had one single person come! After weeks of hard work, it finally payed off as we had the one come to class. That was pretty exciting. By the way, if you want to learn some ASL, you are more than welcome on the Zoom. Sundays at 7pm, San Diego time.
One of our deaf friends from Canada decided to start meeting with the missionaries again, so I'll be teaching him over Zoom now. His name is L, and he believes the church is true but his family is very against him joining the church. He sent a message into our group chat with the Canadian Sisters telling us that he doesn't care what his family thinks anymore and he's gonna start going to church. What a blessing.
On Friday, we drove all the way up to Del Mar. We measured out cable lengths in their building so we can prepare for the Why I Believe devotional we have once a quarter, since I'm in charge of all live streams the mission does now. The cables we have thankfully fit, we will just have to figure out how we're gonna control our video switcher box. All the HDMI is running through some HDMI over Ethernet converters since HDMI's max length is like 40ft or something. We had troubles with our video switcher box not liking the EDID of our old converters, but we returned them and found some that work perfectly. Crossing my fingers everything runs smoothly this Sunday.

Okay, we're back. The ASL branch recently changed their start time from 9am to 10:30am. This means that lots of people who weren't able/aren't willing to wake up early can now come to church. It was a lot of fun to see so many deaf people in our Sunday School. There were around 8 deaf people, and the loud hearing people went to hearing Sunday School! I love the simplicity of the lessons in the branch, it's focused on Jesus more than my experiences with hearing classes. We went over the first few chapters of 1st Nephi, and I can't wait for this year. The Book of Mormon is so amazing!
In my personal studies, I've been reading through my 1000 page annotated Book of Mormon, and it has been really good. It's pointed out things that I've never noticed. One specific example is 1 Nephi 13:41. It uses both the name Shepherd and Lamb in the same verse. Both names describe Christ, but different aspects of his Earthly ministry. What does each name mean to you?
Have a good week! See you all soon.
