You know those weeks where you break your bike? Ya, me neither, I drive a car. But before the mission I rode my bike all around. Sometimes, the chain on said bike slips off the gears and all the sudden pedaling becomes a lot easier. The bike doesn't go anywhere, and any energy expended turning the gears goes to waste.
Other bikes I've seen have a little guard on them so you can't break the chain. There's a little plastic piece that goes over the chain and gears. It's hard to tell if the pedaling is actually doing any good if you can't see the chain moving the wheels. That's a bit how this week has gone. It feels like a week where the chain has fallen off the gears, but it hasn't. There's just an annoying plastic piece over the gears that prevent me from seeing the full effect of my work.
It's the same way with Lehi and his family as they traveled across the wilderness. They took a pretty inefficient route across the wilderness to get to the beach, but as they trusted in God they made their way over there and eventually sailed across the ocean to start the best story ever etched on metal.
Well, enough reflection. This week my companion celebrated his birthday a month early. His mom sent him some decorations and food because she wanted him to celebrate his birthday with a missionary who's leaving soon (don't ask my why), so we celebrated with all the other ASL missionaries after the weekly podcast. It was a solid podcast, and then we had some amazing food. That podcast and efforts to share the gospel over social media is really helping.
Teaching my companion how to maintain Linux servers and code bases has been going swell. Where I'm going home in just a few months, I've been training up some Elders on how to keep Holly (the bot) going, as well as a few other things I've done over the last few years. Looking over the old pieces of code, it's so amazing to see God's hand in silly and simple stuff like software design and bug fixes. I love being a missionary so much, and I'm grateful to be in a mission where my skills are needed.
Whelp, besides knocking on doors and chatting with people about the weather, there's not too much to say. I hope you all have an amazing week! On a side note, I've started slowly uploading some of my old letters to jkcoxson.com. There's a few that I think are worth remembering, so there's a handful there right now.
Google sent me a nasty email the other day saying that I've been inactive on my developer account for too long, and that they're gonna close my developer account unless I publish an app. This morning, I developed the crappiest app I could make in an hour, submitted it to Google Play, and now I'm praying they accept it. I don't have time to actually make an app as a missionary, so I'm hoping the accept the garbage. Please, Google...
